Our Aims and Strategy

Our group was set-up to integrate some of the most exciting developments in our respective fields and apply them to the sustainable reduction of carbon dioxide.

It is becoming widely recognised that the future of low carbon technologies must involve the effective utilisation of CO2 and that such techniques must be fully integrated, to be competitive with their carbon heavy alternatives. Therefore, our vision is for a fully integrated low carbon approach that involves the catalytic conversion of CO2, by renewably generated power and photo-generated hydrogen. Life cycle analysis will be undertaken at all stages of development, to assure both efficiency and sustainability.

We have strategically split this project into four closely coupled themes: (i) electrolytic reduction of CO2, (ii) catalytic conversion of CO2 by hydrogen, (iii) photocatalytic water-splitting and (iv) full life cycle analysis of these combined technologies.
